The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Dear Charlie, you're one of the most sensitive friends I have ever had.

This book is about Charlie, a fifteen-year-old teenager who thinks a lot but doesn't 'participate' enough. He tells his story through letters where he addresses to a friend who is supposed to be the reader itself.

Charlie is a freshman.

And while he's not the biggest geek in the school, he is by no means popular. Shy, introspective, intelligent beyond his years yet socially awkward, he is a wallflower, caught between trying to live his life and trying to run from it.

Charlie is attempting to navigate his way through uncharted territory: the world of first dates and mix tapes, family dramas and new friends; the world of sex, drugs, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, when all one requires is that perfect song on that perfect drive to feel infinite. But he can't stay on the sideline forever. Standing on the fringes of life offers a unique perspective. But there comes a time to see what it looks like from the dance floor.

This book made me feel so many different feelings at once it surprised me. I didn't think I'd like this book, not even when I first started reading it, and now I can see how wrong I was.  What I liked most was feeling how Charlie was growing up, from a kid, to nearly a man and how harmful it can be. It also talks about friendship and moments in which they feel 'infinite' and make you laugh or smile. This is the kind of book in which they make you think about life, about how unfair it is sometimes, or how people are, but there were sometimes where it made you think how wonderful it is.

"The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a deeply affecting coming-of-age story that will spirit you back to those wild and poignant roller-coaster days known as growing up"

"I guess we are who we are for a lot of reasons. And maybe we'll never know most of them. But even if we don't have the power to choose where we come from, we can still choose where we go from there".
